Making An Informed Choice for Frome and Somerton constituency

April 28, 2017 9:27 PM

Making an informed choice.

This General Election is different in many ways to any that has come before. In the last two years the UK has gone through some huge changes. It has come almost a year after the once in a Generation Referendum vote, which resulted in the UK choosing to leave the European Union. It has seen a big divide open up between leavers and remainers, but it has united many of us under a common opinion, that the Conservatives are not the ones to lead us forward.

We are all concerned about the direction our country is taking in all aspects of society. From the Economy, Trade Alliances and our position on the World Stage, to Housing, Health Care, Social Care, Equality and the Environment. You can find out where we stand on these issues here:

You may be confused about how to vote, with talk of 'Progressive Alliances', Target Seats and what position the different parties are taking on key issues.

'Progressive Alliance' is a term used to describe a group of Political Parties who want to defeat the regressive right. To do this it means some parties will stand aside to allow one to take on the campaign. The recommendations of the Progressive Alliance Organisation come from Compass, an organisation that uses past election data to determine how the regressive right can be defeated. This is the only way to beat the Conservatives and other right wing candidates in many places. Somerton and Frome included. The decision to stand aside is not an easy or simple one for any party or constituency to make, but sometimes it is necessary to achieve the bigger goal, a fair, open, tolerant, strong and united UK.

Find out more about the Progressive Alliance here:

Voting tactically is not always a comfortable option for the electorate, but the reality is that only two parties can realistically contest the elections in many constituencies. For Somerton and Frome that is the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. If we can unite the voters of other parties under an alliance or convince them to vote tactically, we could take our home back from the Conservatives and show them that we will be listened to. Your MP should work for you and the election is their job interview. You should know about who is standing and asking for your vote and also how your current MP has been working and voting in the last two years. Find out more here:

Politicians and Candidates are more accessible than ever before. Make use of that. We have a Facebook Profile for the Somerton and Frome Liberal Democrats that you can follow to keep up to date on the latest election news both locally and nationally:

Somerton and Frome was a Liberal Democrat held seat for many years under David Heath, we lost it in the last General Election to the Conservatives and we want to take it back so we can fight to get the best deal for you. We are the party that can unseat the conservatives in Somerton and Frome. This is not something we ask you to do without due consideration. Please look at our Party Website, constituency Facebook Page and contact us to ask any questions you have.

Make an informed decision, use your voice and vote smart on the 8th of June.
